Unlike the soapstone masonry heaters, which is 100% soapstone inside and outside, a soapstone wood stove has a cast iron insert. In order to maximize efficiency and heat retention, all our soapstone wood stoves are surrounded with an average of 1500 lbs of 60mm(2 3/8") thick soapstone slabs.

Other "soapstone wood stove" products available in the market, are only surrounded with a very small amount of 30mm(1 ¼") soapstone, which is only decorative and not enough mass to hold and radiate heat, despite other claims, they will overheat and cool very fast. Our line of soapstone wood stoves, as mentioned above, have a substantial amount of soapstone to hold and radiate heat for hours after the fire is out.

The only way to benefit from radiant soapstone heat, is with enough soapstone to store the energy generated by burning wood, and slowly releasing it over a period of time. If a wood stove only has a small amount of soapstone, it will not store enough energy to radiate, it is as simple as that.

The insert we use, is EPA approved, German cast iron assembled in the Czech Republic. The soapstone we use to surround it, is imported from Brazil and India, and manufactured in New Jersey.

Our Soapstone surrounded wood stoves, are the closest thing to a soapstone masonry heater. Burn wood for just 3 to 4 hours to have natural radiant heat for several hours after the fire is out. A conventional wood stove, including some models decorated with soapstone tiles, will only output convection heating, which is the type of heat that gives us dry noses, itchy skins, etc. Our Soapstone surrounded wood stoves, have over 1500lbs of soapstone to retain and radiate the heat after you stop burning wood, in addition to the convection heat you get from burning wood.

The amount of soapstone used in our wood stoves, will make them the most efficient wood stove available, before getting into a full soapstone masonry heater, because the soapstone will store and use the energy generated by burning wood, to heat the room, instead of letting most of it out the chimney. There are other wood stoves in the market, that are surrounded with thin soapstone tiles, which are basically useless as far as heat retention goes.
